Froth flotation is a physiochemical process widely used to separate materials based on differences in surface wettability. This presentation describes a method to improve the performance of froth flotation and mitigate the issue of over-frothing commonly encountered in industrial flotation operations. Lab-scale and pilot-scale tests were carried out for various coal and mineral particles in flotation machines of different type in the presence of acoustic sound at a frequency below 500 Hz and the results were compared with those without sound. It was found that use of the acoustic sound led to significantly increased flotation efficiency, at modest additional energy cost and reduced reagent consumption, mitigating the overfrothing issue if any. The mechanisms of enhancement of flotation by low-frequency acoustic sound were discussed with respect to bubble-bubble and bubble-particle interactions studied through measuring the stability of thin liquid films.

王黎光,澳大利亚昆士兰大学化工乐鱼leyu(中国)副教授,对外联络副主任。2006年博士毕业于Virginia Tech, 师从美国工程院院士Roe-Hoan Yoon 教授; 1994年-2001年 就读于中南大学资源加工与生物工程乐鱼leyu(中国),分别获得得本科和硕士学位。德国马克思-普朗克胶体与界面研究所访问学者,英国剑桥大学访问学者。主持了十多个澳大利亚研究委员会或矿业研究基金项目。带领研究团队开发了多项煤炭以及金属矿物浮选过程强化与实时监控技术并获得工业示范成果。2022年荣获澳大利亚煤炭工业卓越研究奖。培养了十余名博士生毕业并指导了五名博士后研究人员。
